Your experience begins with pickup from your stay within Madurai city limits. An English-speaking cultural guide introduces the history, symbolism, and cultural value of Marapachi dolls. You will learn why woods such as red sandalwood, neem, and other native varieties may be selected for dolls designed to last for decades.
At a traditional artisan workshop, watch skilled craftspeople hand-carve wooden figures using chisels, knives, and family-taught techniques. See how rough wood is shaped into the distinctive male and female Marapachi forms, followed by sanding, detailing, and natural polishing.
